"World beneath our feet"

IMGP0755 final.jpg

"Whether strolling across hills or woodland, few are aware of the microworld beneath our feet. The soil and leaf litter is teeming with all kinds of weird and wonderful animals living their lives in their own unique ways. Join me on a safari of the microcosmos and see just how many wacky creatures nature has in stock for us"

"From millipedes and centipedes, to mites and springtails, I have seen and photographed a diverse range of invertebrates on my journey to learn more about the local fauna, and to aid me in my career in Invertebrate Zoology."

About me

Invertebrates have always interested me since childhood, but it was only once I started studying Zoology at the University of Reading that I started researching and recording invertebrates properly, especially Myriapods (Millipedes, Centipedes, etc.) as I hope to devote my future research to this group of organisms.
Most of my recording efforts have taken place at the University of Reading Campus in order to expand the University's neglected species list, to which I have contributed 50 new species records.
Photography has been a very useful tool in identifying individual animals without having to necessarily collect them. It also allows the observation of their behaviour and movement which is not possible with preserved specimens.

Project I.T.A.L.I.C

Since the project's beginning in 2021, I have been volunteering for Project ITALIC at the University of Reading. This project works in conjunction with the University's Cole Zoology Museum to sort and catalogue the University's insect collections, making access to specimens easier for undergraduates, and visititors. This also creates an opportunity to repair old specimens and correct data, making sure that the archive is as attractive and professional as possible. Being part of the project has also given me access to a wide range of insect specimens; the perfect focus for my photography.
